Art & Sports
(In the mid 1970's, Simone Forti watched Steve Paxton and Nancy Stark Smithsoma Steve's "new work",
namely, contact improvisation, in NYC and afterwards she feedbacked that it looked like some kind of “..art sport..” -Over the years, this has been picked up by different people looking for a definition about contact improvisation)
Contact Improvisation is a unique mixture of art and sport ? dancers are meeting on a physical level, but the dance is so much more than just the physicality ? it is the mystery and art of two people creating their dance.
We will work and play with imagery and anatomical approaches in how to share weight, move with ease and flow, lead and follow touch. Thru detailed C.I. exercises, we open up improvisation to find pathways to embody, create and enjoy the art of dancing!
